This week’s challenge is to be a person who brings inspiration. The kind that will transform the people you influence. When I think of inspiration, my first thought goes to my dad who coached for over 40 years. His athletes still speak about his motivational talks and how he changed their lives. He passed away over 14 years ago.
For generations inspiring words have brought hope, freedom and courage.
“Bayonets”, “It is finished”, “I have a dream” …”Never, never, never give in!”
When it comes to inspiration there is no influence greater than the tongue. The tongue has the power of life and death. Your words can inspire or crush the spirit of those around you. The tongue is a direct picture of the heart. For out of the abundance of your heart your mouth speaks. “Sticks and stones may break your bones but words will never hurt you”, is a lie; because truthfully, the words of the reckless pierce like a sword. Later one may say I didn’t mean it, however, the mouth merely reveals the contents of the heart. It is what’s inside a man that produces the fruit or character of the man.
People who inspire bring vision and honor to others through their words. The tongue though small is like a match that can set a whole forest on fire. That same tongue can set the course for a person’s life and light a fire that may never be extinguished. That type of inspiration comes from words that are graceful and seasoned as with salt. It’s always good to look people in the eye and speak the truth with love. People of inspiration understand they are most needed in times of adversity and failure. They understand murmuring and complaining do nothing and are detrimental. They choose to respond like Sam Rutugliano, former NFL head coach who said, “Encouragement is like oxygen to the soul.”
People with the power to change lives are those who inspire, cover, restore, train and empower those around them. Today, make it your goal to bring a word of kindness which will bring hope, freedom and courage.
