The Triple Crown of horse racing, American Pharaoh, it hasn’t been done in 37 years. Then Lebron James gets a triple double in Cleveland’s win over Golden State. He will probably have to do that the rest of the way out for his team to have a shot at the title. Baseball’s Triple Crown last won by Miguel Cabera in 2012, after a 34 year draught, when Carl Yaz did it for the Red Sox’s. Then the record books have the amazing story of Roger Hornsby Triple Crown stats - 39 HR, 143 RBI’s and a 403 batting average. The best for both leagues and he didn’t even win the MVP.
These are awesome feats but you can be a Triple Crown Leader. When it comes to obtaining the Triple Crown for life, these foundational principles of truth will change your life and the lives of those around you. These truths are in high demand in our culture and people who possess them will be set apart for great things. The Triple Crown of life is… to do Justly, to love Mercy and to walk Humbly. Let’s define these qualities and overview them.
Justly - taking personal responsibility to uphold what is pure right and true.
Mercy - to overlook an offense and offer forgiveness (not giving people what they deserve)
Humbly – the quality of modesty while valuing others above self.
The story of the Good Samaritan demonstrates all these qualities. We see this Jewish person who gets a beat down and then is robbed. Because of medical law suits, the doctor walks by and won’t touch the guy. He does slip him a prescription for pain. The pastor/priest also walks by and because he’s not from his congregation he decides to pray for him from the other side of the street. While the wounded man is bleeding and groaning the mayor walks by, pulling out his iPhone he makes a note to himself to address social injustice. Then the Samaritan or half breed comes on the scene. He scoops the guy up, takes care of his wounds, puts him on his own donkey, and takes him to the Inn. He pays for the room and says, “I will be back to make sure all expenses are covered.”
The story doesn’t make the local news or social media. Jesus never attaches a name to the guy, but the man was not worried about political correctness, lawsuits, race or affiliation. He just saw a heart that needed tending at a critical time. He did justly, loved mercy and walked humbly. Give and it will be given back to you! Who is defenseless today in your life, maybe helpless, beat down, perhaps they come-up short, made a wrong decision and are in need of a Triple Crown to be placed on their head? Every day can be a Triple Crown day if we are willing to die to our self and have eyes to see and ears to hear what is going on around us. Triple Crown people are others centered. They know what is…Just! They are not afraid to stand up for what is fair. They have a heart of Mercy. Their Humility allows others to get the credit. When they do receive the Triple Crown they will lay it down at the feet of the Master… Jesus. Our Nation, our communities, our schools need Triple Crown men and women. Stand up today and make a difference…you have what it takes.
